ICS Weight Management Services Hub

Welcome to the Weight Management Hub. This website has been developed by PLMR Healthcomms on behalf of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity.

This Hub provides information, statistics, and insights on weight management services in England. It is intended to act as a support tool for those delivering, commissioning and interested in weight management services.

The secretariat of the APPG is welcoming submissions of evidence to be loaded into the site. These will act as examples of best practice, insights and case studies that can inform provision of weight management services across the country.

To inquire about any of the information you've found in the hub, or to propose additional submissions, please contact obesityappg@healthcommsconsulting.co.uk.

Understanding the Weight Management Landscape

Weight management services in England are delivered through a combination of national programmes and locally commissioned services.

  • National Programmes- NHS England commissions several key initiatives available across the country, including:

    • Digital Weight Management Programme- free, app-based support to help people lose weight and improve health.

    • NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme- designed to support people at risk of type 2 diabetes to make lifestyle changes.

    • Type 2 Diabetes Pathway to Remission Programme- offering a structured, low-calorie diet programme for people with type 2 diabetes.

  • Local Commissioning- Integrated Care Boards (ICBs)- are responsible for designing and funding additional weight management services tailored to the needs of their local populations. This means availability and service models can vary between areas.

This Hub aims to bring together information about these services, share good practice, and support commissioners, clinicians, and patient groups working to improve access and outcomes for people living with overweight and obesity.
